Its population is a mix of white professionals, one of the largest Indian-American populations in the Midwest (with major Hindu temples on Ford Road), a substantial Chinese-American community, and a strong Muslim presence anchored by the Muslim Community Association.
That religious diversity concentrates natural allies for the abolition case. Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity all teach that human life begins early in the womb. The abolitionist argument in Canton is that the state law must honor the moral consensus already present in Canton's temples, mosques, and churches.
